Masarrat completes the rehabilitation of the southern canal in Mahmbel to enhance irrigation of more than 3,500 hectares of agricultural land.

As part of the FSL initiatives for Wheat Farmers and Livestock Herders via Irrigation Rehabilitation and Agricultural Assistance in NW Syria – Envelope-1 project, funded by the Syria Cross-border Humanitarian Fund (SCHF)The Establishment for Human Care and Development – MASRRAT has successfully completed the rehabilitation of irrigation canals in Mahambal Sub-district, with the aim of strengthening irrigation infrastructure and improving the efficient management of water resources. 

The rehabilitation works included the restoration of the southern canal, extending 9,500 meters in length. The activities comprised the placement of 850 cubic meters of Grade 300 concrete, cleaning of the inlet and outlet gates and connecting pipes, installation of metal mesh on the gates, and sealing of expansion joints with bitumen to enhance the canal’s efficiency and extend its operational lifespan. 

These interventions are expected to improve the delivery of irrigation water to agricultural lands, benefiting more than 2,500 farmers and serving over 3,500 hectares of farmland. This will contribute to increased agricultural productivity and support the sustainable management of water resources across the project’s target
